The Engineering, Information Technology and Architecture Faculty Employability site is a great place to start when considering your future career. 

There are a wide variety of opportunities for current students to get involved, volunteer and contribute to the School while gaining valuable experience that is recognised by the UQ Advantage Employability Awards program. Students are encouraged to consider their future careers in a number of ways:

Become a UQ Architecture Ambassador

UQ Architecture Ambassadors lead and participate in a wide variety of the school's events and activities. From the elected representatives on the Student Liaison Committee to coordinating fundraising events like the Winter Sleepout, the Ambassadors are highly engaged students who contribute in valuable ways to building the school's community.

Current employment and volunteer roles

Workshop Instructor - With training from the  Engagement and Communications Officer you will learn how to deliver 1 to 2-hour workshops for school-age students visiting the University. Developed by the School, the Designing Your Place workshop is an engaging activity designed to teach school students about architectural design thinking and what it is like to study architecture at UQ. 

Lecture Series Social Media Ambassador - Get involved in the Lecture Series and nominate to be the Social Media Ambassador for one of the eight lectures in the series. You'll be responsible for posts across the School's social media channels in the lead-up, during and after the lecture.

Open Day Exhibition Curator - In collaboration with the Engagement and Communications Officer, the Open Day Exhibition Curator will assist with the curation and installation of the School's Open Day exhibition.

UQ Architecture Winter Sleepout CoordinatorIn collaboration with the Engagement and Communications Officer, the Student Sleepout Coordinator/s will assist with the UQ Architecture Winter Sleepout - enrolling students in the fundraising drive, engaging local architectural practices and assisting the event logistics.

Winter Sleepout Social Media Coordinator - In collaboration with the Engagement and Communications Officer develop and deliver social media content for the Winter Sleepout. Work with the Sleepout Coordinator/s to raise the profile of the Sleepout and communicate the activities of the Sleepout during the fundraising drive, on the night of the Sleepout and following the event.

End of Year Exhibition - There are a number of ways to get involved in the exhibition from social media and graphic design to curation and logistics.

Register your work experience

Work experience isn't a course requirement, but it can enrich your studies and enhance your career prospects. All UQ students are entitled to University insurance cover for up to 30 days per calendar year of unpaid work experience related to their studies.

If you register your work experience with us, we'll approve your insurance cover if we feel the experience you've chosen is relevant to your study program.

To register your work experience:

  • complete all sections of our Unpaid work experience registration form (PDF, 897kB)
  • ask the work experience provider to sign the form
  • read the sections on the form that outline the University's terms and conditions, and statutory requirements
  • email us the completed form at least ten working days before you start work experience.

We'll assess your application and let you know if your insurance has been approved.
