ATCH is a Research Centre of the School of Architecture at The University of Queensland, Australia.
Directed by Dr John Macarthur, it offers an environment for academics and research-higher-degree candidates working on the history and theory of architecture and in architectural criticism.
ATCH researches the intellectual history of architecture. Researchers study not only the history of buildings and architectural concepts but also the cultural position of architecture, its relation to the visual arts, philosophy, urbanisation, and technology, and how this matrix of relations has changed historically. Research has addressed European architectural culture in Europe and in Australasia. ATCH partners the Aboriginal Environments Research Centre at UQ, which studies Aboriginal, Torres Strait, and other vernacular architectures of the region. ATCH also undertakes applied research in partnership with government and private bodies, and ATCH researchers also have expertise in heritage policy and management.
On this website you will find information on the people and projects of ATCH, as well as links to our broader research network. You will also find links to many publications by the ATCH community held on UQ eSpace.
