School of Architecture

If your Higher Degree by Research (HDR) research is low risk, then you may apply for ethics approval through the School of Architecture. Academic staff cannot apply for school-level ethics approval, except for their HDR work. Any other staff research must go through the UQ level ethics application process and committee.

HDR students should refer to the National Statement and UQ Guidelines when completing the form. HDR students should speak to their supervisors about ethical considerations prior to completing the form, and discuss with the School's Ethics Officer if there is any confusion. In complex matters we will seek the advice of the UQ ethics officer to clarify issues.

The HDR candidate should then complete the application form, and provides copies of the survey or other research instruments to be used, as well as copies of the participant Information Sheet/s and Participant Consent Form/s for discussion with the Ethics Officer. Please ensure that you work through these documents prior to final submission to ensure that ethical matters have been considered and accounted for in the research, rather than simply completing the form.

Once finalised, please submit the application directly to the Ethics Officer who will discuss with the Director of Research and provide the final approvals.

By arrangement with the original authors and Ethics Officer, copies of previous applications and participant forms can be provided as precedents to assist with new applications.
