School of Architecture

The School of Architecture encourages students with outstanding academic performance and demonstrated commitment to learning to consider further studies within the School of Architecture’s research environment. The School offers two Higher Degrees by Research – the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The School of Architecture's Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Guarantee provides students with outstanding academic records the security of a guaranteed scholarship – whether or not they are successful in the wider University’s competitive process. The School’s Scholarship Guarantee is available to Australian citizens, Australian Permanent Residents and New Zealand citizens who:

  • have graduated from a Master of Architecture (Hons IIA or above) and/or have an overall GPA in the Masters of 6.2 or higher
  • are eligible for, and willing to apply for, the UQ-wide Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) and UQ Graduate School Scholarship (UQGSS) in the next available scholarship round (application closing dates can be found at the Graduate School website, and
  • enrol full time in the Higher Degree by Research program with a Principal Advisor from the School of Architecture.

If you are awarded a Research Higher Degree Scholarship Guarantee then you are unsuccessful in your application for an APA or UQRS scholarship, the School will provide a living allowance scholarship at the APA rate (currently valued at AUD$25,392 per annum) to support your studies. This stipend is payable for 3 years for completion of the PhD program and 1.5 years for the MPhil program. A possible 6 month extension is subject to approval based on academic progress.
