School of Architecture

In 2016 the UQ Architecture Winter Sleepout returned to partner with Brisbane architectural practices Cox Architecture, Arkhefield, Baber Studio, Populous and The Tiny House Company to raise $17,300.00 for the Second Chance Programme and increase awareness around homelessness within the architectural community.

This year 34 sleepers spent the night 'roughing it' in the Wandering Cooks carpark in West End. Before rolling out their sleeping bags, Kathleen Noonan from Second Chance and UQ Honorary Senior Fellow, Dr Greg Bamford provided the sleepers with valuable information about the pathways into and out of homelessness. Both reiterated the importance of the Sleepout and the valuable contribution the generous donations will make to the lives of those at risk.

The Winter Sleepout organisers, Dr Kelly Greenop and Mr Michael Dickson extended their thanks to all those that contributed, "it is important to remember what a significant impact the money we raise will actually have, and we would like to sincerely thank all our sleepers and everyone who supported them with their generous donations!"

Michael added, "we would also like to thank the architectural firms who participated this year, it is great to have their involvement. I would also like to extend our appreciation to Wandering Cooks for generously hosting the Sleepout."

Kelly and Michael said the Sleepout will be back in 2017, as the School aims to continue to build a culture of care and compassion.
