Outside of the Symposium, cultural activities were organized facilitate cross-cultural discussion between the local Indigenous groups and academics and the Chilean delegation.

Alex Bond, a local Kabi Kabi man and tutor at the University of Queensland, and Prof. Paul Memmott conducted a walking tour through Brisbane CBD, speaking about the Aboriginal cultural landscape and history of the area as well as the present urban Aboriginal life and identity.

The following day, the participants travelled to Stradbroke Island where environment specialist Brian Coghill, of GoorieMooka Tours spoke about the complex management traditional Quandamooka peoples’ land which is subject to mining leases, National Parks, International Conservation (RAMSAR), Native Title and other land tenure.
