Gaston Bachelard's famous work The Poetics of Space (1958) explored personal and emotional responses to buildings, both in life and in literary works.
As a fusion of literature and philosophy, Bachelard's thinking has inspired generations of architects, designers, and philosophers to investigate lived experience in buildings and their natural context.
In this presentation, architects Kim and Monique Baber of Baber Studio will speak about the influence of Bachelard and other literary sources, including David Malouf's 12 Edmondstone Street, on their designs. Baber Studio has been commissioned to transform part of the Fryer Library into an object-based teaching space.
Join us to hear Kim and Monique discuss their design philosophy and learn about this new project and how you can be involved.
