Philip Cox is the founding partner of the firm. He commenced practice with Ian McKay in 1963 and formed his own firm, Philip Cox and Associates in 1964. The firm has grown to become Cox Architecture with 500+ personnel.

He has received numerous awards in recognition of his contribution to architecture, including the RAIA Gold Medal in 1984, Life Fellowship to the RAIA in 1987 and Honorary Fellowship of the American Institute of Architects in the same year. In 1988 he was awarded the Order of Australia for services to architecture. In 1993 he received the inaugural award for Sport and Architecture from the International Olympic Committee, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Humanities.

Cox is responsible for the concept design of most of the firm’s projects and reviews all the designs produced by the practice. He visits all branches on a regular basis and is responsible for the design management of the firm. He is presently active in major overseas projects in the Middle East, Singapore, China and Malaysia and is also an independent Non-Executive Director, Member of ESOS Committee for UEM Sunrise Malaysia.

Philip will be talking about COX Architecture's National Maritime Museum of China project. The National Maritime Museum of China is situated in Northern China, outside the city of Tianjin. The museum houses both new and historic maritime items with a focus on celebrating the achievements of Chinese naval exploration throughout the ages.
